A solitary campaign poster in town

1 poster in town, a solitary poster by the governing Christian Democrats. You have heard of them, it's the party of Ms. Merkel who rocketed to stateside fame when Mr. Bush offered a Texas shoulder rub to the tense looking German Chancellor. The poster appeared within the past week or so, six weeks before the German general election.

The solitary poster is zip tied to a lamp post, so high up that they must have stuck it on from the bed of a truck, a real one, not a pickup.

The poster is about 20 by 10 inches, we had to estimate because we could not get up there and measure. Where is a truck when you need one?

We cannot show you a photo because we don't carry a camera or a smartphone around any more. Why get a sore shoulder from an additional five or ten ounces of oppressive weight when nothing really warrants the extra byte use.

The artistic value of the poster is, let's say, somewhat limited. It has a uniform dull orange color and a black imprint "Solide Finanzen" set at an angle, running from the top left to the low right, with "CDU", the party's acronym in the low righthand corner.

As an English speaker, trust your intuition regarding the possible meaning of the German words.

We will not try to evaluate how solid German government finances really are. This statement was a hint. Hint!

The answer to our only other question about the poster must remain speculation for the same reason we had to estimate the size.

Is the poster backboard plastic, in which case we would assume recycled plastic, or is it made out of eco friendly material, aka wood?

Short of borrowing a truck there is no way of knowing for sure.

Who would have thought a German general election campaign could be so exciting.
