Baking a gun?

How long before the 3D printer plastic gun becomes a metal gun?

As reported by the Huffington Post and media around the world, you can now make your own plastic gun in a 3D printer.

Plastic is still the material of choice for 3D printing, but we have been asking ourselves this question ever since we first read about this technology.

When will you be able to produce metal items?

The crafts people among you have probably heard about metal clay. The make it and bake it metals for jewelry may not be usable "as is" but what if they point a way to metal printing?

It doesn't have to be a gun (actually, we hope it won't be a gun). There are other small metal items which go out of style and which do not have to withstand the same forces as does a gun.

Let us know if somebody has already printed with steel metal clay.

[Update 8 November 2013] The Guardian reports a metal 3D gun has been printed using metal laser sintering. Didn't take long.
