Summer festival tip

For Northern California.

To us, neither daylight savings time nor the first flowers represent the true start of spring.

The true first signs of spring pop up in our email inbox.

It brings the tell tale signs in the form of concert announcements, and they keep coming. Thicker than the snow flurries on Easter Sunday.

If you happen to be anywhere near Northern California at the end of June with a tent, sleeping bag and three days of spare time, check this one out.

The Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival is gem of an event in the far north of Northern California. It is great for families, and there is music for different tastes.

This year, they clinched Marianne Faithfull and Taj Mahal in addition to a rafter of lesser known but great artists.

The festival being a small affair, there is always room for the pleasant surprise.

Where else can you traipse back towards your tent after the last show and be drawn to a small music tent where Charlie Muzzlewhite jams with some other folks.

And then your companion points to the older white haired woman they just invited up on the stage and goes: is this Carole King? You don't know, they don't say, and there is no need to care.
